United States Border Patrol Agent Aaron Veckey, who bravely stepped forward to expose disturbing conditions at the U.S.-Mexico border, has been officially cleared of any wrongdoing following a federal onset by his on-camera interview with O’Keefe Media Group (OMG).
In September of 2024, Veckey, a 19-year veteran stationed in Ajo, Arizona, went on record to detail systemic failures and humanitarian abuses, including freezing detainees, lack of shelter, and dangerous overcrowding occuring at the southern border. He filed a formal Report of Government Wrongdoing with the Office of Special Counsel (OSC), outlining multiple instances of gross mismanagement.
Among the specific allegations were failure to provide basic care to migrants detained outdoors in freezing weather: “Where I first saw it was here, underneath that canopy there,” Veckey said during the original interview. “It was just men, women, and children… They were freezing. It was at least 40 degrees.”
He describes another instance of extreme conditions, adding, “You got 50 Muslims, 50 Sikhs, 50 Christians, 50 whatever, and they’re fighting over shade.”
Veckey also described the danger posed to both agents and detainees: “If they have a thousand bodies for us, as fast as they can bring us bodies, we pick them up as fast and we push them all into this parking lot.” His disclosure form further alleged that this created an “officer safety hazard” and showed that he had personally witnessed the conditions and had photo and video evidence.
In a letter dated May 30, 2025, Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Roberto Teran concluded the case against Veckey, writing, “After a thorough review of the information gathered, I have concluded that the allegations appear to be unsubstantiated, and therefore administrative action will not be taken involving this matter. This case is now closed.”
Despite facing a cease and desist order following his appearance in OMG’s report, Veckey stood firm in his decision to speak out. In the original interview, he said, “My conscience will be clean. That’s way more important than my pension.”
