The undercover journalist encountered former Project Veritas board member Matthew Tyrmand and, over the course of four months, recorded conversations with him, capturing remarks that O’Keefe says help explain his removal from the organization he founded.
On February 6, 2023, O’Keefe was indefinitely suspended following a board meeting at Project Veritas. The nonprofit investigative newsroom, founded by O’Keefe in 2009, had grown into a multimillion-dollar media organization.
Now, these recordings show Tyrmand discussing his interactions with the SDNY/FBI and his involvement in taking down conservative organizations.
TYRMAND: “I’ve already fed the Southern District tons of sh*t on him.”
TYRMAND: “I have a thousand sources in the DOJ and CIA I talk to all the time… this is what I do all day.”
TYRMAND: “I would kill him [O’Keefe]. Because he is one of the most evil people I’ve ever known.”
O’Keefe’s book had bullet holes through the cover over O’Keefe’s heart. O’Keefe has filed a restraining order in Palm Beach County, Florida, citing safety concerns.
The recordings also cover Tyrmand’s finance work. Listed with Bradley Woods & Co. Ltd. in New York, he says he could not discuss certain matters over text due to an NDA but spoke about them in person with the undercover journalist.
TYRMAND: “I want to be behind the scenes… make a lot of money and then weaponize it.”
TYRMAND: “I signed an NDA… I’ll lose my licenses… civil and criminal penalties.”
O’Keefe confronted Tyrmand in person in Miami Beach about the recorded conversations with the undercover journalist.
