True to his word, James O’Keefe, alongside OMG, successfully obtained body camera footage after months of grappling with obstruction and bureaucratic red tape. This footage unveils the disturbing realities concealed within the walls of Casa Alitas, a covertly funded illegal immigrant compound at the Ramada Inn in Tucson, AZ.
This was where nonprofit groups Catholic Community Services and Las Palmas used federal funding to harbor illegal immigrants and where O’Keefe spoke to officers claiming ignorance as a bus filled with illegal immigrants pulled in behind them. After OMG exposed the facility, the government was forced to shut it down.
The obtained footage exposes the alarming reaction of a male security guard, hysterically alleging harassment as we exercised our First Amendment rights. Refusing to provide his name, he sought refuge in anonymity, only to be met with the assertion of our recording rights by another officer.
As O’Keefe, disguised, unveiled his microphone, the security guard’s discomfort intensified. He described the mere act of recording as a “terrifying threat,” revealing the depths of paranoia surrounding our investigation.
Earlier OMG undercover footage captured a woman accosting an undercover OMG reporter on the property saying, “No, this is private property right now, it’s for immigrants,” and yelling at him. The body camera footage reveals a worker in a frenzy of paranoia and secrecy complaining to officers, “they keep coming on and taking pictures of the migrants.”
It appears that the most terrifying part of their job is not the safety risk posed by illegal immigrants who are gang members, but the potential for the truth to be exposed.
This confrontation, albeit appalling, propelled the closure of the facility, marking a victory in our battle against institutional malfeasance. With one facility shuttered and a FOIA battle won, OMG remains steadfast in our investigation into the misuse of federal funds in facilitating illegal immigration.
